We do not collect personally identifiable information without visitors knowledge. Where visitors do provide such information (e.g. in emailing the Safer Internet Centre, or signing up for the Safer internet newsletter) we will only use it for that purpose, and will only reveal contact information or use quotations in a public context having obtained specific permission.
The Centre will track the number of visitors to our site and retains aggregate statistics about this, but we never look at the specific usage of our website by identifiable individuals.
Whilst using the UK Safer Internet Centre web site, we may need to collect information about your browsing session. We are committed to ensuring that this information is collected, stored and used in an ethical way, which observes UK data protection legislation.
Anonymous Site Usage Data
Whilst you browse our web site, we will collect data about your browsing session. This data is anonymous; we cannot use it to relate your browsing session to you personally. The kind of data we collect includes the pages that you visit, the number of times that you visit them, your operating system, your screen resolution, the version of your web browser and the country you're visiting from.
This data helps us:
- To plan for future site developments;
- To identify and better promote our most popular content, and likewise, our less popular content;
- To gauge the success of marketing campaigns;
- To identify periods of heavy site usage, to help forecast when is best to perform maintenance work on our server.
We use a tool called Google Analytics to collect this data. All of the data is stored securely on Google's servers.
In order to track your browsing across sessions, Google analytics will place a 'cookie' on your machine (a small text file that web sites use to track and remember information across several browsing sessions). You can tell your web browser not to accept cookies if you don't want us to do this (refer to your web browser's help file for more information).
Our Mailing Lists
You can optionally choose to subscribe to one of the UK Safer Internet Centre mailing lists at www.saferinternet.org.uk. When you subscribe, you'll need to provide us with your name and e-mail address. These details will be used solely for contacting you with information relative to the mailing lists that you subscribe to.
UK Safer Internet Centre, or its partners, will not hold share, rent or sell your details with any third party.
Your information will be held securely on our servers and on the servers of Constant Contact. Constant Contact’s is the service that UK Safer Internet Centre currently uses to distribute newsletters and notifications and also to manage some events. You can unsubscribe from our mailing lists via the link provided at the foot of all the sent newsletter communications, after which point, your details will be permanently removed from our servers.
Feedback & Send to a Friend
When you use the 'Comment or Suggest' and 'Send to a Friend' features of our web site, you will be asked to provide names and e-mail addresses. These site features automatically generate an e-mail and send it to a nominated address; as such, your information is as secure as it would be if you were to send it via e-mail. In light of this, we would advise you not to send sensitive information using these site features. When you use these features, we do not store your information on our servers.
Online Booking Systems
From time to time, we run conferences and events which require online booking. Our booking system will collect personally identifiable information about you, which will be used to process your booking request. Additionally, with your permission, we will add your e-mail address to our mailing list.
Delegates, exhibitors and sponsors of our events often find that a printed delegate list can aid networking. As such, we may include the following information about you on delegate lists, which may be distributed at the events: Your name; the name of your school or organisation; the name of your Local Authority; details of the workshops that you are booked onto, where applicable. At the time of booking, you will be given the opportunity to opt-out of appearing on these delegate lists.
Your details will not be passed on to any third party and will not be used for any other purpose.
For some of our events, we accept online payment. If you make an online payment, your payment details will always be transmitted of a secure (HTTPS) internet connection. We will store your payment details securely on the RegOnline servers for a maximum of 120 days following the event for the purpose of processing any necessary refunds. Your details will be stored in an encrypted format and neither we, nor RegOnline will have direct access to those details.
