We know that children and young people are looking to adults, in particular parents and carers, for help in keeping them safe online and ensure they are not exposed to harmful and inappropriate content.

However, they may sometimes be reluctant to raise the matter themselves. That is why it is vital for parents and carers to build a relationship based on openness and trust where they are having regular conversations with their child about what they are doing in their lives, both online and offline.

Safer Internet Day is a great opportunity to remind families of the importance of having this dialogue and working together to ensure the child can enjoy the many, many good things that the internet has to offer, both in terms of education and entertainment.
