Youth Manifesto Competition

07 Jul 2014 UK SIC

Have you taught e-safety in your school this year?  Did your pupils create a resource?  Then why not enter it into the Youth Manifesto Competition.

This European-wide competition invites young people to create a resource to express ideas around creating a better internet.

Whether your pupils produced a poster for Safer Internet Day, created a film for the Childnet Film Competition or wrote a poem as part of an e-safety lesson, the Youth Manifesto competition is a chance to enter these resources into a European wide competition.

Taking this year’s Safer Internet Day theme, ‘Let’s create a better internet together’ the competition is a chance to celebrate the positive aspects of the internet by sharing the resources young people have made throughout the year.

The aim is that teachers, youth leaders and other young people can then use your creation to trigger more ideas.

The competition works as follows:

  • Submit entries online by 15 September 2014
  • Visitors to the site will view and vote on the resource(s) – this will count for 50 per cent of the final score.
  • A jury will consider all entries and provide a score. The judges’ decision will count for 50 per cent of the final score.   The criteria that the judges will use to score entries is available here.
  • Scores will be combined to identify the top six winning resources.
  • The creators of the top six winning resources (and an accompanying teacher) will be invited to present their ideas to high-level decision makers in the European Parliament and to attend the Safer Internet Forum (SIF) in Brussels, in November 2014. All travel and accommodation costs will be paid.

The deadline for both entries and votes is 15 September 2014. Remember – the sooner you upload your entry, the longer you will have for people to view it and vote on it! Full information and timelines on the competition is available on the Get involved page.
